New and improved: the R-tray developed in collaboration with VILOSA!

We are excited to share the outcome of our recent collaboration with VILOSA! The introduction of our new R-tray is a wonderful example of innovation and craftsmanship.

We recently worked intensively together with Vilosa on the development of this new R-tray. In line with Vilosa's dedication to sustainability and top quality, we searched for ways to reduce their ecological footprint and reduce waste. Moreover, the airy design promotes better cultivation quality and healthier pot plants.

R-Tray completes the circle
The use of pots and trays made from recycled material is an important step in sustainability. This applies to both consumers and nurseries. The step is even greater if these trays are used multiple times. Our R-trays are easy to mechanise, making processing and transport smooth. That is why we developed and produced the R-tray line. This product line consists of reusable transport trays made of 100% recycled PP.

New cultivation trays for Phalaenova

Smart pots or trays can help growers improve their processes. Orchid nursery Phalaenova from Brielle also experiences this. Their old cultivation vases needed to be replaced. That is why we have developed new 6-fold cultivation trays together with Phalaenova. The reusable trays are transparent and suitable for pots with a diameter of 12 cm.

Higher quality through smart design

Orchids tend to grow their roots into the air as well. These so-called aerial roots can easily become entangled with the aerial roots of the plant next to them during the cultivation process. The depth of the new tray greatly limits the entanglement of the aerial roots. The leaves of the orchids are also not easily damaged by this. The result is a more beautiful and better quality plant with a higher yield.

Increased efficiency

With the old cultivation vases, the Phalaenova employees were forced to pick up the plants one by one. Picking up and moving the plants has become a lot more efficient with these 6-fold trays. This saves the grower a lot of time and the plants are better protected against damage.

Fully recyclable

When developing new products, we want to make the products circular as much as possible. That is why most of the products developed and produced by us are made from recycled material. In this case, it was decided to produce the trays from recyclable material. If the trays no longer suffice after many uses, they can be processed in our own recycling facility into plastic chips, which are then melted down into new plastic granules for the injection molding process. Read more about our recycling process here.

The advantages of the new trays at a glance:

Stick process is faster
Less damage to the leaves
Less root entanglement
Higher quality plants
Picking up 6 plants instead of 1

Do you also want to improve your cultivation process or make it more efficient? We develop and produce pots, trays and associated plastic horticultural products to customer requirements. Feel free to contact one of our representatives and experience for yourself what is possible. We are ready for you!

R-Tray completes the circle

The use of pots and trays made from recycled material is an important step towards sustainability. This applies to both consumers and plant nurseries. The step is even greater if these pots and trays can be used several times. That is why we developed and produced the R-Tray. This product line consists of reusable transport trays made of 100% recycled plastic from our own chain.

100% recyclable

We produce our growing R-Tray family from 100% recycled PP (polypropylene). This is a material that is also 100% recyclable and can therefore be used again to produce new pots and trays. All pots and trays produced by us are made of PP. This also makes the collection of used pots and trays more manageable. By supplying recyclable products and collecting used plastic products, we help our customers to limit the waste stream.

Customer specific designs

As an innovative supplier of plastic horticultural products, we are constantly working on new developments. Many of these product developments come about because our representatives listen carefully to the wishes of our customers. This creates all kinds of customer-specific designs for trays and pots. So, as a plant grower, do you also have certain wishes to make the cultivation process better, faster or more efficient? Challenge us.

R-Tray with carrying handle

For example, we have produced R-Trays for various plant growers that are suitable for a carrying handle. Growers who supply garden centers and hardware stores can thus supply a complete 4-pack or 6-pack, in which the tray, the pots and the carrying handle are produced from recycled PP and can therefore all be recycled again.

Recycling Guide

For a successful recycling chain, we set a number of conditions for the delivery of used material. The quick guide is on our website too to download. We describe herein, for example, that the plastic products must be offered separately on a pallet or in the pallet box made available by us. But also that different materials, such as polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS) cannot be recycled together. By taking this into account, we complete the circle together.

Would you like to know more about the benefits of our R-Tray product line? Please feel free to contact one of our representatives. They can tell you all about it and are happy to think along with you about your specific wishes.

Our fair at the IPM 2023

We were delighted to be present at the IPM trade fair. Our stand proudly displayed our beautiful collection of pots and the new r-trays, as you can see above. The various colours, sizes and materials of our pots immediately attracted the attention of visitors. The IPM fair seemed like the perfect opportunity to present our products. It was a successful event where we received a lot of interest and positive reactions.

100% detectable products from PCR recycle material.

For years we have been working on making our plastic products more sustainable.

We take back plastic products, recycle them and use them as raw materials for new products. But did you also know that we also supply polypropylene (PP) pots that consist of 100% post-consumer (PCR) waste with the same quality as products made from virgin plastic?

We achieve this through specialized sorting of the collected plastic, thorough cleaning and processing. Watch the video about how we complete the plastic circle.

Large assortment

Tray from PCR Plastic - Van Krimpen
A large part of our range of pots and trays is available in PCR plastic, such as various round and square pots, tree containers, rose containers and soft fruit pots. The PCR plastic pots and trays are available in various colours. In addition, other products, such as sticks and clips, are also available made of PCR plastic. This makes your end product even more circular.

Detectable from waste stream

To create a fully circular raw material flow, the plastic from the waste must be detectable so that it can then be recycled again. However, with some colors this is a huge challenge. Yet we have already achieved this with 20 different colors. As a result, the possibilities in 100% recycled and detectable pots and trays are already enormous.

Cyclos Certified

We had these different colors of PCR plastic tested at the cyclos-HTP Institute for Recyclability and Product Responsibility. This institute aims to classify, assess and test the recyclability of packaging and products, and to conduct research and development in this area. This makes them the certification body in the field of recycling.

Various colors detectable

We are proud to announce that we have currently received an official cyclos-HTP certificate for 12 colours, and that several other colors have already been determined to be fully detectable.

Would you like to know more about the necessity and possibilities of detectable post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic? Please contact your representative for prices, delivery times and other information.

New version 12 cm XXS pot

As an addition to the existing XXS series, we are introducing a new 12 cm XXS pot made from 100% recycled PCR material.

The new XXS pot has undergone a number of adjustments, such as a reinforced pick-up rim and a bottom with optimal drainage, but that's not all.

Matted outer wall

With a matted outer wall, the new XXS has a more luxurious appearance, and is therefore striking in a subtle way. This look is now in line with our popular DecoTainer series. What is perhaps even more important for you as a grower: due to the matt outer wall, less dirt adheres to the pot, but stickers stick better. Very nice when presenting your plant.

Different detectable colors

cyclos HTP Logo
We have received an official cyclos-HTP certificate for various colors of PCR material. This means that you can also order this XXS pot in a color that matches the look of your company or your type of plant.

Would you like to know more about this new XXS pot or about the necessity and possibilities of detectable post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic? Please contact your sales representative for prices, delivery times and all other information.

How Van Krimpen completes the circle

Plastic household waste is not waste, but a great raw material for new products.

This short video shows how Van Krimpen completes the plastic circle by using post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, or plastic waste from households.

As a supplier of plastic products for professional horticulture, Van Krimpen has been producing a wide range of pots and trays from this household waste for some time now. Van Krimpen has succeeded in ensuring that these products are of the same high quality as the products they have been supplying from recycled industrial plastic for many years.

Six-pack of plastic household waste for sustainability

Together with nursery Themaplant from Grashoek in North Limburg, pot supplier Van Krimpen has developed a special reusable six-pack. The six-pack, which is intended for square P9 pots, is produced from Post Consumer Recycled plastic, or plastic household waste.

Themaplant is a tree nursery that specializes in ground-covering shrubs in P9 pots, such as Cotoneaster, Euonymus, Hedera, Pachysandra, Vinca and Waldsteinia. Their main customers are garden centers and DIY stores in Europe. As an MPS GAP-certified nursery, they are constantly looking for sustainability. For example, they grow in cold greenhouses and without lighting, so that CO2 emissions are limited, and they can reuse water through closed systems.

Sustainable solution

Previously, Themaplant used Van Krimpen 's six-packs of sturdy and reusable PET, PP pots and PS carrying handles. After planting the shrubs, the consumer disposes of these plastic parts with the plastic household waste. However, waste processors have great difficulty separating these different plastics from each other, so there is a risk that they end up in waste incineration. This was a reason for Themaplant to change this. Van Krimpen tackled this question with both hands and came up with a responsible and cost-effective solution.

Six Pack PCR - Van Krimpen

Designed for Recycling
Based on their Designed for Recycling principle Van Krimpen has come up with a completely circular solution. The new concept for Themaplant now consists of a P9 pot that Van Krimpen developed earlier, a new six-pack tray and a carrying handle. All these products are made of PP from 100% PCR plastic household waste, making them easy to recycle.

Certified

The trays – which can be used several times – and the pots are Cyclos certified by the cyclos-HTP Institute for Recyclability and Product Responsibility. This demonstrates that these are easily detectable by the waste workers and therefore do not end up in the waste incineration. Due to the new design, the tray is lighter in weight than the previous PET tray and also more user-friendly. Injection molding of PP does not create sharp edges around the tray.

As a grower, are you also on your way to sustainability? Van Krimpen produces countless pots, trays and other plastic horticultural products from PCR plastic. Please contact your sales representative for the best solution.

“Growth through innovation” – what does that mean?

Our slogan has been “Growth through innovation” for some time now.
This applies to both our growers and Van Krimpen itself;

But what do we mean by that and what exactly does Van Krimpen do?
What exactly can Van Krimpen do for you as a grower?
And how can Van Krimpen help me as a grower to work in an environmentally conscious/sustainable way?

We have captured the answer to these questions in our company film.
